Clare Hackett
Senior School Counsellor - Perth College
Professional Bio
Clare Hackett has been a teacher of philosophy, ethics, and religion for 20 years, studying education, human movement/physical education, and theology. Her passion has been in pastoral care and mental health, and service-learning throughout her teaching career. She is currently a senior school counsellor and in her third year of a part-time study in Masters Counselling and Psychotherapy. Originally from Wales, UK, she is of African Ghanian heritage and was adopted, along with three mixed-race siblings, by parents who fostered in her the importance of doing things for others. As a young person, she travelled extensively throughout India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Laos and lived in Japan for a year emigrating to Australia in 1989. Her extensive travel experience informed her desire to expose young people to the diversity of cultures through service learning and social justice issues in Australia and overseas. Clare has taken over two hundred and twenty-five students to Cambodia for an immersion experience for the past fifteen years. She encourages people to seek opportunities to make a difference for others, recognising that service underpinned with humility can transform lives in ways we may not realise.
